Very nice modernist magazine drawer cabinet in the manner of Elmar Berkovic, Vilmos Huszar, Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Zwart. Unfortunately, the background of this piece is unknown till now, it’s a fantastic made and well crafted cabinet with typical De Stijl influences. The connections are very nice invisibly made, the coloring is typical Rietveld, but it’s too clean to be Rietveld. The piece has a white, grey, black and yellow lacquer, with black lacquered metal side and black vinyl top and drawer fronts. It has 3 wooden open drawers, one closed drawer with a paper covered handle. The cabinet is in excellent condition with minimal wear from age and usage, comes from family from first owner. Previous owners had a lot of pieces by Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and bought a lot of furniture at Metz & Co so this cabinet probably comes from Metz as well. Berkovic made a lot for Metz, also on request and this doesnt look like a serial production. This cabinet has always been used as magazine cabinet. Original lacquer finish, we think this cabinet was made in the 1950s though the design looks to be a lot older. Height:55 cm Width:61 cm Depth:42 cm
