Hand-carved African sculpture of a stylized monkey. The wooden monkey is seated in a crouched position, holding a piece of fruit with both hands placed close together. The base is wide and steady. The stylized face and posture with large rounded muzzle, deep-set, carved eyes and prominent brow and cheeks suggest it’s meant to be more expressive than realistic. The figure is carved entirely from wood, using at least two tones. A dark, almost ebony-like wood for the body and a lighter, warm-toned wood for the round object the monkey is holding. The surface has visible tool marks, especially on the torso and arms, adding texture. African 20th century tribal carving. Dimensions 20 cm wide, 18 cm deep and 38 cm high
