Rare small armchair designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, Utrecht Holland 1949. This chair was made by a local blacksmith and was a pre Nemefa production which was supposed to be bigger and heavier. This chair has a solid steel frame with raster back and seat. The armrests are made of wood and the entire chair is professionally repainted in authentic color. The cushions are upholstered with upholstery by De Ploeg and this fabric was often used by Rietveld for his furniture. The chairs were often sold without cushions so the client could arrange their own at the time. The provenance of this chair is unknown but the chair is similar to some other so called prototype’s that are known to exist. We know that Rietveld had these chairs made by a local blacksmith for several occasions or clients so there are sometimes small differences in the production of this chair and therefor this is often sold as prototype.
