A wool rug with a marvelously modern pattern. It has been attributed to the avantgarde department store Metz&Co from ca 1925. As an investor, Metz&Co was one of the most important catalysts of modernism in the Netherlands. Gerrit Rietveld, designed 75 pieces for Metz&Co. Bart van der Leck, for whom colors had a spritual power, created colorspectrums, interiors and rugs for the store in Amsterdam. Sonia Delaunay took fabric as the medium for her and created more than 150 works for Metz&Co, including rugs. The designer of this rug remains to be researched. But to create a geometric pattern like this was highly innovative for its time. Evenly spread, yet assymetrical. Rythmic, like early jazz Considering its age it is in a good condition, but it is old and it has usermarks, as shown in the pictures. Please feel free to contact me for more detailed information
