Satsuma earthenware with a pale greyish-white glaze; the well and narrow rim richly and meticulously painted in the “Kin-nishikide” (gold brocade) style, using polychrome pastel colours, black and iron red; six different cartouche shapes, each depicting a different scene with views of Mount Fuji, seascapes, boats, geishas, samurai, and animal and floral motifs; framed by small fans, fantasy ornaments and small blossoms, partly in white enamels; to the unglazed underside: unidentified impressed mark; rim with areas of colour wear and minor glaze irregularities. Dimensions: diameter approx. 45.5 cm, height: approx. 2.4 cm; total weight: approx. 2.08 kg.
