- Study for 'Saint Genevieve as a Child in Prayer'
This drawing is a study for the head and the right hand of the woman in the foreground of Puvis de Chavannes's monumental work "Saint Genevieve as a Child in Prayer" for the Panthéon. The finished work was exhibited at the Salon of 1876 and installed in the Panthéon on May 22, 1877. The drawing showcases the artist's meticulous creative process, revealing the fundamental importance of drawing in the development of his murals. Puvis de Chavannes carefully traces the details of this woman’s face on a squared sheet of paper, rendering shadows with a vast network of hatching and light with white chalk. The authenticity of this work has been recognized by the Comité Pierre Puvis de Chavannes in a certificate issued on February 16, 2019, under number 19-02-16.
