This 1930s Bauhaus chair by Mart Stam is painted in RAL 1021 Rapeseed Yellow, a rich, deep yellow tone that gives the chrome-plated tubular steel frame an unusually warm color effect for Bauhaus furniture. The frame, made of bent chrome-plated tubular steel, functions as a cantilever: by omitting rear legs, the tube itself provides the springy function, giving the seating a noticeable lightness. The seat and backrest are made of shaped beech plywood, which is clamped directly into the steel tube frame. The Czechoslovak production of these chairs was closely associated with Thonet from the 1930s onwards and served the European market for cantilever chairs by Stam and Breuer. The chrome frame is in very good condition, and the yellow paint is newly applied. As a dining chair, this 1930s cantilever chair fits tables with a height of 75 to 78 cm. In the study or dining room, it sets a clearly historically situated accent. Other colors are available upon request from the existing stock of unrestored chairs.
